Alan Chadwick a Gardener of Souls

Three Fairy Tales told by Alan Chadwick

Ever the performer, Alan would frequently spice-up his lectures with fairy tales told in the most theatrical manner. His repertoire was limited, but the ones he told often, he told well. When, in February of 1980, many of us gathered at Green Gulch to say good-bye to Alan and wish him well on his further journeys, as he was obviously dying, he spoke somewhat about his vision of the garden. Then, in order to end on a more mythical note, he told three of his favorite fairy tales. These were recorded and later transcribed for publication in Volume II, Number 1, of the "Alan Chadwick Society Newsletter" (Spring and Autumn 1984). Thanks to Paul Lee for permission to reprint.
